Scout Association suffering from volunteer drought

A lack of volunteers is proving to be the biggest obstacle in growing the Island's Scout Association.

It's led to calls for more adults to sign up as leaders and skills instructors to help make a positive difference to the lives of young people aged between six and 25.

The organisation already has an 800-strong membership with waiting lists for almost all of the 20 groups around the Island.

That's scouting commissioner Guy Thompson - under protocol scouts must spend 75 per cent of their time outdoors, something he believes is essential in the modern world:
