A Douglas man will stand trial next year accused of seriously harming a pregnant woman by driving without due care and consideration.

60-year-old James Shimmin entered a not guilty plea to the charge at Douglas Courthouse earlier this week.

It follows a collision on the Whitebridge Hill Road in Onchan on the morning of June 6th involving his Hyundai Getz and a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

The female passenger of that car required an emergency caesarean section as a result but later gave birth to a healthy baby.

A pre-trial review will take place on January 19th - the defendant has been bailed in the meantime.
