Mixed Leagues

League 1

Fencibles A 14 Microgaming Marown A 4

Fencibles welcomed back Kevin Harding for his first match of the season following an ankle injury and were also further strengthened having Joe Burrows back from University. Fencibles pair Kim Beavers and Philippa Li took second women's comfortably from Marown's Jessica Lloyd and reserve Isla Thomas. Marown's first pair of Olivia Avery and Janet Sayle put up a good fight but Fencibles Alex Bell and Island team regular Jess Li proved too strong and remain unbeaten at the half way point of the season. Second mens was taken in two straight games by Ian Hemensley and Joe Burrows from Campbell Guy and Adam Coppell, while first mens went Marown's way with Adam Colley and Jason Chatwood beating Fencibles pairing of Kevin Harding and Juan Corrin in two hard fought games. Third and fourth mixed both went Fencibles way in two games.  Second mixed saw Fencibles Harding and Bell come out on top in three games 22/20 10/21 21/7 over Chatwood and Sayle. First mixed also went to three ends with Fencibles combination of Hemensley and Li finally coming through 19/21 21/18 21/12 over Colley and Avery to complete the Fencibles victory. IH

League 2

Doehle Corporate Selborne A 10 Cannell Print Rushen A 9

Good narrow win for a much-changed Selborne  over a competitive Rushen who took both womens comfortably in two games. Selborne won both mens with Roy Wilson and Ben Watterson beating Rob Mason  and Adrian Edwards 21/14 21/18, and Stuart Foley and Alex Lambie winning in three against Neil Ronan and Andy Bowers. At fourth mixed Selborne's Watterson and Gill Young did well to beat Edwards and Sarah Goldie 21/19 21/14, whereas Rushen's Mason and Janet Corkish got the measure of Wilson and Anita Griffiths winning 22/20 21/10 to put Rushen 7-6 ahead. Two hard fought  matches in the final two mixed saw Selborne win both in three games to give them overall victory – Foley and Susie Stewart 21/15 14/21 21/17 against Bowers and Carole Ennett at second and Lambie and Lisa Lewin 21/16 17/21 21/16 over Neil and Kirree Ronan at first mixed.  RMcM

A hard fought win for Castletown/Abbey with four good experienced men, and a break with 'tradition' as Selborne  lost both mens yet won both womens! Castletown/Abbey's Stu Lyon and Graham Coffey took second mens in two games against Ray McMullen and Raymond Gawne, while Selborne's Renee Michalogiannis and Sue Richardson beat Sinead Stephens and Claire Townsend 21/14 18/21 21/11. Peter Hadfield and Nick Thornley were made to work hard for their narrow 21/19 22/20 win over an improving  Selborne's Adi Oen and Shibu Augustian, whose Selborne team mates Fe Gawne and Sue Young took first womens in two versus Hannah Clague and Hayley O'Meara. Difficult to separate the pairs at fourth mixed as  Selborne's McMullen and Michalogiannis lost a lengthy battle 20/22 22/20 20/22 against Lyon and Townsend, while at third Coffey and Stephens extended the away side's lead with a close 21/19 21/15 win over Raymond Gawne and Richardson. Oen and Young lost in three to Castletown/Abbey's Thornley and O'Meara at second mixed, before Selborne's Augustian and Fe Gawne got a much needed win 21/15 13/21 22/20 over Hadfield and Clague at first mixed.
