Armed Robbery at Willaston Spar Shop

Sun, 17 Jan 2016

Police are appealing for witnesses following an armed robbery at Willaston Spar Shop last night.

A man has been arrested in connection with the robbery which happened at around 9.30pm.

The offender entered the store and threatened a female member of staff with a knife, ordering her to open the till. He made off with around £500 in cash.

The Robber is described as about 6 feet tall, white with a chubby build he was wearing a dark coloured body warmer, a dark coloured long sleeve top and what is believed to be grey or blue jogging bottoms. He was also wearing a mask

Detective Sergeant Bobby Syme said: ‘This offence is obviously worrying for the public and a very alarming method of offending, but thankfully there were no serious physical injuries to the lady who cooperated with the offenders instructions. ‘We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of the Spar shop between 9.15pm and 9.45 pm on Saturday night or anyone who may have been in the shop at around the time of this offence.

A male has been arrested in connection with this offence and is currently being questioned by officers, but this is by no means conclusive so I again appeal to the public for any information which may assist the investigation.

The public is likely to see extra patrols in and around such shops and this is to reassure them whilst investigations continue.’
