A rather disappointed IoMSC Douglas team left the Glen Gardens range on Monday evening having been defeated in Division 1 of the IoMRA Winter League. The St Johns based team have been relishing some excellent results over the past few months but the loss at Laxey was the second in as many weeks. Nothing should be taken away from an impressive score from Laxey where 489 x 500 when just eight team members compete in a match, is an excellent result.
Top Score for the home team went to Suzanne Curphey on 99 followed closely by Stephen Curphey and Garry Kneale, both on 98. Bridget Kneale and Harry Creevy made up the five man team both on 97. For the visitors, Mark Osborn and Andy Potter led the way on 97 with Tracey Skelton and juniors, Sam Jones and Christian Eaton all on 96. Consolation wins went to the Douglas outfit in Divisions 2 and 3.

Spirited win for IoMSC Sandsiders in Division 1
Castletown Rifle Club have been posting excellent wins over the past few weeks but on their Monday evening jaunt to IoMSC Sandsiders at St Johns, their recent winning formula took a back seat. A good Division 1 score of 483 for Sandsiders proved to be enough to take the premier Division win. Leading shot went to Bill Jones on 99 closely followed by Steve Callus on 98 and junior Matthew Roosen hitting 97. A 95 for Andy Traynor and 94 from Graham Wyatt made up the team. Richard Arthur continues to be one of the contenders for the Individual Championship and this week was no exception with him posting a creditable 97 followed by Nigel Christian, Robin McFee and Steve Gardner all on 96 and Lauren Cooper recording 95 making up the team.

Tough match for the village minnows at Kirk Michael
Kirk Michael Rifle Club have been having difficulties recently with a lack of members being able to compete regularly and on this occasion, just six were available to take on a strong team from just up the road, Sulby. Kirk Michael’s junior Illiam Christian, shot a magnificent 100 with the teams veteran Tom Lord hitting 98, Suzanne McKnight produced 96, another junior Andy Kelly, posted a 92 with yet another junior Alex Trafford on 91. For the visitors, Mark Cain and Julian Teare were leading shots on 98 with Peter Webb and Teddy Sayle both recording 97’s – Will Quayle made up the Division 1 team on 96.

There will be no shooting over the half term holidays and therefore the next League matches will recommence on February 15th and will see Castletown taking the short trip to near neighbours Port St Mary, IoMSC Douglas, welcome IoMSC Sandsiders , Kirk Michael go over Snaefell to Laxey and Sulby, have this week’s bye.
