Budget blamed for higher utility rates

Electricity, water and sewerage rates are set to spike.

It follows an announcement by the Manx Utilities Authority that it's increasing rates by an average of £5.60 per month for each consumer.

Electricity unit prices will reduce from 16.25p per unit to 16p from April 1st - however there'll be a standing charge rise from 15p per day to 19.5p.

Water rates will are on the up by 2.3 per cent and sewerage will climb to 92p in the pound - Alf Cannan attributes the changes to high debt servicing costs:
