Man jailed after living high life he didn't pay for

Fri, 26 Feb 2016

A Douglas man who ripped off Island businesses by trying to live a high life he couldn't pay for has been sent to prison.

44-year-old Alan Bell racked up bills of over £3,200 by deceiving a number of bars and restaurants, a limousine company and bed and breakfast between December 2014 and February last year.

At Douglas Courthouse yesterday he was described as "naive" as the court was told he'd conned the establishments by claiming to have pre-arranged tabs with a credit card for payment.

Bell had previously admitted eight counts of obtaining goods or services without payment and one of obtaining services by deception.

Magistrates sentenced him to two weeks for each offence and ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £125.
