'Essential' new secondary school five years off

Building a new secondary school in Castletown could take up to seven years but is "absolutely essential".

That's the message from Professor Ronald Barr - the chief executive of the Department of Education and Children.

He's told the Social Affairs Policy Review Committee that it's the next major capital scheme on the list.

£50,000 was set aside in this year's Budget for design work - despite this it could be years until it comes to fruition:
