Time to relook at drug policy says Chief Constable

The Chief Constable has admitted he's becoming "concerned" about the number of people being prosecuted for low-level drug offences. 
 
Gary Roberts says he's now entered discussions with the Acting Attorney General to see whether existing cautioning and prosecution policies are still relevant. 
 
Statistics show drugs offences rose by 30 per cent in the last year - police say most of these were for possession type offences; in total £308,000 worth of drugs were seized from the streets. 
 
A Drug Arrest Referral Scheme is already in place to stop everyone caught from going to court but he says it doesn't always work:
