Expensive bill for couple after McDonalds spat

Fri, 15 Jul 2016

An early morning McDonalds has cost a Douglas couple hundreds of pounds after they lashed out at security staff leaving one with a fractured nose.

25-year-old Craig Murphy and 23-year-old Chelsea Morgan became involved in a verbal dispute with the staff at 3.15am on September 27th last year.

Murphy was removed from the fast food outlet but lashed out at the man causing the injury to his face - Morgan was verbally abusive and was described as "slapping and striking" at the staff.

The duo later pleaded guilty to affray - at Douglas Courthouse this week Murphy's advocate said his actions were "totally out of character" describing it as a "one-off grave error of judgement".

Morgan's advocate said she had also acted "completely and utterly out of character" and had "misguidedly" stepped in to assist her boyfriend.

Sentencing the pair Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said their behaviour "by anyone's standards was very poor" adding it was a "sad endorsement of society" that McDonalds needed security staff.

Murphy was fined £800 and ordered to pay £300 in compensation - Morgan was ordered to pay £750; both were also made to pay court costs of £50.
