Surplus horse trams to be sold off

Thu, 25 Aug 2016

Six horse trams will be sold off this weekend to raise money to keep the service in operation.

Douglas Borough Council will auction the trams after they were deemed to be surplus and no longer essential for historic or operational purposes.

It follows its decision to hand over the historic tramway to the Department of Infrastructure which has pledged to continue operating it for another two years.

The surplus trams - which are in need of varying levels of restoration - will be sold to organisations and individuals who are willing to commit to their preservation.

Local auctioneers Murray's will conduct proceedings from 11am on Saturday at its offices in Douglas.
