Falls are one of the main reasons for ambulance callouts in the Island.

Manx residents can learn how to avoid falls as part of Self Care Week, which starts today.

The Department of Health and Social Care is running a fall prevention roadshow across the Island over the next five days.

Health authorities say falls can be a major issue for older people, and have a big impact on health and social care services.

Around 30% of those over 65 and half of over 80s suffer a fall each year, making falls one of the most common reasons for ambulance callouts in the Island.

The workshops take place between 10am and 2pm daily at the following locations:

Monday 14th - Crossroads Care Shop, Douglas

Tuesday 15th - Westlands, Peel

Wednesday 16th - National Sports Centre, Douglas

Thursday 17th - Thie Rosien, Port Erin

Friday 18th - Ramsey Town Hall
