Construction companies urged to make sites secure

Wed, 23 Nov 2016

Construction companies operating on the Island are being reminded to make sure their sites are secure.

The Government's Health and Safety at Work Inspectorate wants workers to make sure anyone who enters a building site won't be injured, particularly children.

The health and safety body says excavations and pits should have a barrier, hazardous substances should be locked away and ladders should be removed from excavations and scaffolding.

The warning comes following a number of reports of people on the Island putting themselves at risk by entering such sites.

Dozens of children are injured in the UK every year as a result of trespassing on construction sites.
