Manx shoppers given Christmas debt warning

Sat, 26 Nov 2016

Manx shoppers are being urged to make a budget, be careful with credit and keep receipts in order to avoid building up debt over Christmas.

The Isle of Man Office of Fair Trading is issuing the advice as it often sees members of the public struggling with mounting debts at this time of year.

The organisation says some people still find themselves dealing with bills from last Christmas as the next one approaches.

The OFT advises shoppers to focus on affordability over desirability, sell any unwanted items to help fund the festive period, and shop around for the best deals while being wary of scams.

Tips on avoiding overspending at Christmas and details of how to speak to a debt counsellor can be found on the OFT's website.
