The Manx public is being advised to install apps that can track their phones if they are stolen or lost.

The Isle of Man Constabulary says having such an application activated could help protect data and retrieve the handset if it goes missing.

The police warn there's no guarantee the apps will get the phone back, but it can increase the chances of the device being found.

Anyone who does have their phone stolen can call 999 if the suspect is still in the area, or Police Headquarters if the thief isn't around anymore.

Links to apps that work with different operating systems and brands of phone can be found on the Constabulary's Facebook page.
