No plans for helmet law

Tue, 13 Dec 2016

The Infrastructure Minister says there are no plans to introduce a law making cyclists wear helmets on the Isle of Man.

Ray Harmer confirmed the Road Traffic Legislation Bill would allow the Department of Infrastructure to bring in regulations for the wearing of helmets, but that there are no immediate plans to do so.

In response to a question from Speaker of the House of Keys Juan Watterson, Mr Harmer insists the majority of cyclists on the Island already wear helmets.

However, the Minister says he'll continue to monitor the situation, adding the safety of road users is important to his Department.
