An inspection into the state of the current horse tram depot and tram shed found there to be a significant risk of part of the building collapsing.

The Department of Infrastructure ordered the Strathallan site to be surveyed after being offered the chance to purchase the facility from Douglas Borough Council.

However, the inspectors found the building to be in a dilapidated condition, claiming the first floor and roof are too reliant on vulnerable structural elements, which could result in a collapse.

The report also said the front wall is unstable and beyond economic repair, while some of the embedded steelwork is potentially irreparable.

It concluded the building's current condition mean it's not viable in engineering terms.

The report was published as part of the DoI's planning application to build a temporary replacement depot at the nearby Summerland site.
