Drivers warned many factors affect breath test result

Mon, 19 Dec 2016

The campaign encouraging Manx residents to think about how they're getting home while celebrating over the festive period has issued a drink-driving reminder.

The Drink Safe, Drive Safe, Go Safe initiative says age, weight, gender and metabolism all affect how the human body processes alcohol, which can make it impossible to say how much alcohol an individual can drink while remaining under the drink-drive limit.

The type of drink, whether or not the driver has eaten and stress can also play a part.

The campaign, which is being run by a number of organisations including the police and public transport authorities, recommend drivers avoid all alcohol if possible.

The Island's Roads Policing Unit has reported that its officers have stopped a number of drivers in recent weeks that have failed a roadside breath test in the run up to Christmas.
