Petition objecting to horse tram changes gains support

Fri, 13 Jan 2017

A petition objecting to the proposed changes to the Douglas Bay Horse Trams has collected almost 1,000 signatures.

The Manx Electric Railway Society set up the petition against plans to cut the length of the tramway and make changes to the stables and car sheds.

This morning, the online petition is just over 100 signatures short of its 1,000-name goal.

The Department of Infrastructure wants to reduce the length of the line when it reconstructs Douglas promenade, with the service stopping at Broadway rather than the Sea Terminal.

The move divided Tynwald when it sat last month, but another vote will take place next week.
