Registration deadline nears for tourist accommodation

Thu, 19 Jan 2017

Businesses offering tourism accommodation have until the end of next week to register with the Department of Economic Development.

Hotels, self-catering accommodation, guest houses, bed and breakfast and a number of other types of tourist accommodation have to be registered with the Government to ensure they comply with legislation.

Such businesses need to have a fire safety certificate and insurance in order to be included.

The DED says having all accommodation registered gives tourists confidence when booking a place to stay on the Island.

Those who are registered with AirBnB also have to be signed up with the DED, but homestay households do not have to register with the Department.

Businesses have until January 27th to sign up - more details can be found on the Government's website.
