A local authority backing a campaign to improve road safety for cyclists on the Island says it wants to see the Manx highway code updated.

Garff Commissioners have teamed up with Safe Cycling Isle of Man on the Share the Space campaign, urging motorists to give cyclists 1.5m of space when overtaking.

The campaign was launched following the death of Kate Burge from Garff in 2014, who died after being hit by an overtaking vehicle.

The Commissioners are displaying adverts in the area reminding road users to give each other enough space, and have been giving cycle lights and safety information to pupils at schools in the area.

Martin Royle is the deputy clerk to Garff Commissioners. He told MTTV that such changes have already been made elsewhere [play audio].
