The Minister for Policy and Reform doesn't think the Government needs to bring in a general policy for training its staff.

Each Government Department and body is currently responsible its own rules for employee development.

Chris Thomas was asked at this week's sitting of the House of Keys whether a policy should be brought in across the board, but the idea was dismissed by the Minister.

Mr Thomas insists the training needs for workers such as fire officers, teachers, civil servants and nurses are all very different, so a general policy wouldn't necessarily work.

The Government spends around £2m on staff training each year.
