Manx patients urged not to order unnecessary meds

Mon, 15 May 2017

Those with prescriptions on the Isle of Man are being urged not to order medicines they don't need.

The Department of Health and Social Care spent £16m filling prescriptions last year, but estimates around £300,000 worth of medication is wasted each year.

Unused drugs can be returned to pharmacies for disposal, and the Department says many of these are unopened but cannot be recycled.

The DHSC wants public to think about what medications they need, and not order those they don't need, or stockpile medication.

Leaflets, posters and stickers promoting the campaign are being placed at pharmacies around the Island.
