The Department of Infrastructure is seeking permission to spend over £20m on a scheme to reconstruct Douglas promenade.

Minister Ray Harmer will ask Tynwald to approve the £20.73m plans at this month's sitting.

The scheme includes redesigning to southern end of the prom to improve traffic flow, creating a cultural area around the Villa Gaiety and changes to the horse tramway.

The DoI hopes it can also install new water and gas mains as well as lighting at the same time, as well as new drainage and highway foundations.

If the spending is approved, the Department will still need to apply for planning permission.

It's hoped the reconstruction will get underway in September next year, taking around three years to complete.
