DoI hopes new Lezayre Road plans will mean less disruption

Fri, 13 Oct 2017

The Department of Infrastructure hopes its new plans for roadworks on one of the busiest roads in Ramsey will result is less disruption for the public.

Work initially got underway to refurbish Lezayre Road last September, but the project was postponed after workers found there wasn't enough room to operate the site and keep the road open to traffic.

The DoI is now planning fewer changes to the carriageway and drainage, while Manx Utilities won't be installing a new water main.

The £475,000 scheme will now include planing and overlaying a 1.1km stretch of the highway, as well as full reconstruction of the Bircham Avenue junction to extend the life of the road and improve safety and ride quality, while cycle lane will also be introduced where possible.

There will be road closures during the works, which it's hoped will be completed is two stages working around next year's TT and Festival of Motorcycling.
