Unemployment in the north of the Island will be discussed in next week's sitting of the House of Keys.

Economic Development Minister Laurence Skelly will be asked what is being done to establish why the north has a higher unemployment rate, and what is being done to fix this.

The latest labour market statistics from the Government show 67 people were registered unemployment in the north of the Island in September, compared to 42 in the south and 23 in the west.

Over 200 are out of work in the east, but the higher population gives the east an unemployment rate of just over 0.8%, while in the north it's over 1%.

The north is also the only area of the Island to have fewer job vacancies than people out of work.
