The Island's Health Minister insists standards of healthcare in the north of the Island will not fall following changes at Ramsey & District Cottage Hospital.

The Department of Health and Social Care announced plans to introduce a consultant-led intermediate care service at the facility, ending the GP-led service.

Kate Beecroft says standards will remain as high as ever, and that the new service will support GPs as it will be available for all practices on the Island to make referrals to.

The Minister adds that the changes will be made following careful consideration, and that the service will make better use of the Ramsey hospital.

The service is aimed at those who are fit enough to be discharged from Noble's Hospital, but would need ongoing care at home.

Mrs Beecroft's comments come in response to Ramsey MHK and GP Dr Alex Allinson expressing concern over the plans.
