Douglas council considers new tram system

Douglas Council is looking into introducing an electric or diesel tram system to run along the horse tram tracks along the promenade.

The Council's Leisure Services Committee has heard how the technology is new and therefore unproven.

Due to the cost of the scheme, the local authority would need to link up with either the Department of Tourism and Leisure or Department of Transport to make the venture viable.

The committee is to look into the proposals further, as means of providing transport along the prom as part of a park and ride scheme.
