Health worker loses unfair dismissal claim

A health worker who claimed she was unfairly dismissed from her job at Noble's Hospital has lost her claim.

Michelle Inglis - who also stood in this year's House of Keys General Election - claimed she was fired for being unable to return to her full duties after undergoing cancer treatment.

However, the hospital insisted her dismissal was due to a breakdown in trust, and that she had been warned she would be suspended if she refused to leave the hospital after being removed from an on-call shift.

A tribunal was critical of Mrs Inglis's decision to speak to local and British national media about her situation while suspended from her position, claiming articles has brought the hospital into disrepute.

The hearing went on to say what was written about the case was a "gross distortion" of the truth, which breached the trust and confidence of her employer.

The tribunal concluded Mrs Inglis was justifiably dismissed because of a breakdown in trust between her and senior management.
