Police warn of Facebook stranger danger

Police are warning the Manx public of the dangers of accepting Facebook friend requests from strangers claiming to be local.

The Isle of Man Constabulary says fake profiles often appear genuine and claim to be from the Island.

However, officers warn some profiles will offer to swap naked pictures, only to then attempt to blackmail their new friend.

The police say such profiles can be operated by people 1000s of miles away who look nothing like their profile picture.

Officers urge anyone who receives a friend request from someone they don't know to think carefully before accepting.
