Cavendish starts Tour de France

Manx cyclist Mark Cavendish begins the Tour de France for the 11th time in his career today.

The Manx Missile is part of Team Dimension Data's team for cycling's biggest race of the year.

The 32-year-old's preparations for the race have been hampered by glandular fever, with Cavendish competing in just two events since February.

Cavendish, who won the green jersey in 2011, has 30 stage wins at the Tour, just four behind all-time leader Eddie Merckx.
