An Air Traffic Controller at Ronaldsway has been given an award for his part in an emergency landing earlier this year.
Peter Faragher was recently recognised by the Guild of Air Traffic Controllers for helping to safely land a flybe Embraer 195 enroute from Manchester to Belfast City.
On the 1st of August the aircraft made an emergency diversion to the Island because the crew suspected smoke in the cabin and cockpit.
Ronaldsway’s landing system was out of action at the time due to the runway project works and there was a low cloud base sitting over the airport.
Peter provided the crew with a “Surveillance Radar Approach” that allowed them to perform a safe emergency landing.
Rob Marshall, President of GATCO, praised Peter’s handling of the situation and said he demonstrated excellent skills in helping the crew land without delay.
