Day One: Manx athletes in action today in swimming, triathlon and boxing

Sixteen gold medals are up for grabs on the first day of Commonwealth Games competition in Birmingham.

 

Swimming will get the proceedings underway this morning for Team Isle of Man.

There will be heats in a number of events at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre from 10:30am.

23-year-old Alex Bregazzi will swim in the Men's 400m freestyle heats. 

Keira Prentice will race in the Women's 200m freestyle heats. The 17-year-old met Prince Charles during a visit of the Athletes Village on Thursday - this is her first Commonwealth Games.

Peter Allen, Harry Robinson and Joel Watterson make up the Men's 50m butterfly heats.

Isle of Man flagbearer Laura Kinley will swim in the Women's 50m breaststroke heats. Laura has competed at the Games since Glasgow in 2014 and was a finalist four years ago at the 2018 Gold Coast Games.

17-year-old Harry Robinson will feature in the Men's 100m Backstroke heats.

Team IOM will also compete in the Mixed 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay Heats.

 

The Triathlon will take place in Sutton Park from 11am onwards.

20-year-old Niall Caley will make his Commonwealth Games debut alongside Will Draper in the Men's Individual Sprint.

 

The men’s light welterweight last 32 will see Jamie Devine take on Ghana's Abdul Omar this evening at the National Exhibition Centre.
