Day Five: Swimming - Charlotte Atkinson in 200m Fly Final

In Swimming, The Isle of Man’s Charlotte Atkinson is the first Manx Swimmer to reach a Commonwealth games Final in 48 years

The 21 year old from Douglas finished 2nd and Qualified for tonight’s final in the 200m Butterfly at the Optus Aquatics Centre.

Atkinson stormed in to the lead from the very start and lead the 4 length race right up to the final few metres. Australia’s Brianna Throssell gained on her in the final length and beat Atkinson by just .02 of second.

It ranked her 6th in the Event and the Finals will be held this evening at 9.29pm / that’s this lunchtime in the Isle of Man at 12.29pm BST

"I feel so proud for the Isle of Man and I know that they are all behind me. I have done one better than last time already."

On having no 50m pool at home: "I trained at home until I was 16 and then the program wasn't really good for me. We had gym facilities and everything but without the 50m pool there's only so far that you can get. But I am still doing the Isle of Man proud even though I train in England."
