No Sky TV discount for Island residents

Sat, 11 Jan 2014

Sky TV customers in the Isle of Man shouldn't be receiving discounts on their bills.

Over the last few weeks some people have been reporting that they have been given money off because of the reduced services available here or that they have had the VAT waived.

It now seems that this shouldn't have been the case and the company is looking into how it came about.

Once the story became widespread on social media sites, Sky TV was inundated with calls from island residents asking for the discount to be applied to their account.

Despite some callers reporting that they had been successful, it's likely there was some confusion and the discounts were applied erroneously.

It's probable the Isle of Man was mistaken for the Channel Islands where VAT doesn't have to be paid.

A Sky spokesperson said "VAT is paid in the Isle of Man at the usual UK rate of 20% and there are no planned changes to this arrangement."
