Jury rule neglect played part in death of prisoner

Negligence is said to have played a part in a Jurby prisoner’s accidental death in 2012.

Michael Davidson’s cause of death was drug toxicity, with a 7 person jury declaring although accidental; it was contributed to by neglect.

Mr Davidson had taken a significant amount of medication during the time between his arrest on March 11th, and death on March 13th.

As a result of the ruling the coroner of inquests set out 15 recommendations that will be sent onto the prisoner governor, Chief Constable, Department of Health and Home Affairs aswell as healthcare professionals.

The constabulary and Department of Home Affairs has expressed their condolences with Mr Davidson’s family, and say they will follow the coroner’s recommendations.
