Archery Report

Tue, 29 Sep 2015

The last shoot of the Outdoor season was blessed with beautiful sunshine and perfect shooting conditions. As it was the last shoot, the handful of archers who turned up decided to have a go at rounds they had never been shot before so the Seniors tackled an American and the Juniors had a go at a St. Nicholas. The American comprises two and a half dozen arrows at each of three distances – 60, 50 and 40 yards. The St. Nicholas comprises of four dozen arrows at 40 yards and three dozen arrows at 30 yards.

The Gents Recurve saw a straight shoot off between Tony Hartley and Danny Cowin. Tony who had missed most of the season due to other commitments found the going difficult and had to withdraw after the first distance. This left Danny, who had been well in the lead, to finish alone.

In the Gents Compound division Dave Moore, Billy Lightfoot and Rhys Moore clashed in a nail biting tussle for victory. Dave and Rhys shot a perfect score for the first dozen, with Billy dropping 4 points behind. At the end of the first distance Rhys had maintained his perfect score (270) Billy had still only dropped 4 points and stood on 266, while Dave had dropped 10 points and stood on 260. At the second distance it was Billy Lightfoot’s turn to record a perfect score. Rhys dropped 4 points and Dave Moore dropped another 2. This meant that going into the final distance Billy and Rhys were tied 536 points. All three men then put in perfect scores at the final distance which meant a tie between Rhys Moore and Billy Lightfoot, with Dave 8 points adrift.

Juniors Toby Young, James Hill and Jacob Brookes shot the St. Nicholas. Toby shot well over the first distance and gave James Hill too much to do over the second distance to catch him. Jacob did not have a sight mark for 40yds at the start of the shoot but battled through and shot well in in the 30 yards distance.
