Extra jail time for paedophile caught with pictures of children

Wed, 13 Jul 2016

A convicted paedophile has had his prison sentence extended after images of children were found in his cell.

Andrew Byrne, who's an inmate at the Isle of Man Prison, appeared at Douglas Courthouse yesterday where he admitted breaking his Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

Prison officers searching the 39-year-old's cell on April 12th found almost 90 newspaper and magazine cuttings - six of these were photographs of children.

His advocate told the court it was a "clear breach" of the order but said the images weren't indecent and were from films which had children in them.

Sentencing him Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes added an additional two months to his sentence which is due to expire in 2025 saying "it's worrying you continue to possess such images".
