OFT launch alcohol measures consultation

The Island's Office of Fair Trading is seeking feedback about the way alcohol is measured in Manx pubs, bars and restaurants.

The Isle of Man sells spirits in larger measures than in England and Wales, resulting in licencees having to use stamped measuring equipment to ensure the measures are accurate.

However, the OFT believes the lack of availability of stamped measures and free pouring mean some drinks are inaccurate.

The organisation is hoping finding a way to measure spirits more accurately will ensure consumers get what they pay for and avoid having drunk more than they realise, increasing the risk of drink driving.

The OFT is taking feedback by post, fax or email until March 31st.
