More Government buildings could be sold off

The Department of Home Affairs could sell off a number of buildings no longer used by the Manx Government.

Minister Bill Malarkey confirmed in this month's sitting of Tynwald that former police houses, the old prison site, closed police stations, fire stations and the Department's former headquarters at Homefield could be sold.

However, each site will be assessed individually to determine whether the Government can find another use for the site.

Mr Malarkey also revealed that he took Homefield off the open market when he took charge of the Department, believing the land could be valuable for the Department of Health and Social Care instead.

The question came from Ayre & Michael MHK Tim Baker in response to the Government's decision to sell off Ramsey Courthouse.
