Cancelled sailings allow gearbox work to begin

Tue, 13 Sep 2011

Fastcraft sailings are being disrupted by the weather conditions again today.

The 7.30 Manannan crossing and return journey at 11.15 are both cancelled.

The Steam Packet Company has been taking advantage of the cancellations to begin work repairing the vessel's damaged gearbox.

Engineers believe the damage could have been caused by the Manannan taking in a lobster pot or fishing mark through a water jet, causing shock to the gearbox.

The operator hopes it will have the fastcraft operating at full power by the end of the week.

The Ben my Chree is operating as normal this morning, but there could be problems for the later Manannan crossings.

Anyone booked on sailings which have been affected by the weather should contact the Reservations Team
