Whooping cough cases on the rise

Mon, 30 Jul 2012

The number of cases of whooping cough in the Isle of Man is on the rise.

Public health officials say so far this year there have been nine cases, yet in the previous three years, there hadn't been any.

An increase has also been seen in the UK where the illness has claimed five lives.

The Director of Public Health is urging parents to make sure their children are vaccinated against whooping cough.

Dr Parameshwaren Kishore says the disease is especially serious in young babies. [play media file below]
