Does the Island have a gambling problem?

A recent survey has revealed that a greater number of the population on the Island has gambled in the last year when compared to a similar survey in Britain.

78% of the Manx public had gambled over the last 12 months, whether that be in a casino or buying a lottery ticket.

 

The number is 10% higher than the figures obtained from the British Gambling Prevalence Survey in 2010.

 

Of the 4000 surveys sent out just under half were returned.

 

GamCare Isle of Man carried out the study in an effort to get a definitive set of results on which to base their work.

 

We spoke to Lynsey Smart from the support group, she said they anticipate there are still a number of people with problems who are not coming forward:
