Island's Treasury warns of tax email scam

Fri, 17 Nov 2017

Some Manx residents are receiving emails which claim to be from the Income Tax Division as part of a scam.

The Island's Treasury is warning that messages sent from nationalinsurance.ITD@gov.im are a hoax.

The message claims a refund is waiting to be claimed, but is designed to trick the recipient into revealing their financial information.

The Income Tax Division insists it would never contact members of the public by email with details of rebates or refunds, nor ask people to disclose personal information by email.

The Treasury is advising anyone who receives such a message to read it carefully, not to click any links and delete the message if they have any doubts about the authenticity of the message.
