Abortion Bill to move to third reading

Wed, 25 Apr 2018

The Abortion Reform Bill will move to its third reading despite some MHKs calling for a delay.

Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan had asked for a one-week postponement at this week's sitting of the House of Keys to allow the Attorney General to check the proposals are human rights compliant.

However, Ramsey MHK Dr Alex Allinson insists the draft legislator has ensured the proposals are compliant, and that the Attorney General will get a chance to look at the Bill when it moves to the Legislative Council.

Members went on the complete the consideration of clauses stage, finalising details of access zones, which will prevent those in need of or working for abortion services from being harassed near clinics.
