Results for week ending 13th February..

Mixed Leagues

League 1

Microgaming Marown A 9 Citywing Vikings A 10

Vikings started off the match well with wins at second mens for Sam Mills and Steve Allen 21/15 23/21 and second womens for Emma Nicholson and Charlotte Dougherty 22/20 21/10.  First mens was a very close encounter with Marown’s Danny O'Hare and Adam Colley taking the first game 21/19 before Steve Quayle and Matthew Nicholson took the second game 21/11.  The third game saw the Vikings pair hold five match points but O'Hare and Colley saved them all to run out 26/24 winners in the third game.  Kath Kermode and Olivia Avery had a 21/19 21/16 win over Vikings Yvonne Irvine and Sam Murphy at first womens.  Fourth mixed saw a good win for Mills and Dougherty 21/19 21/16 over Marown’s Kevin Druggan and Michelle Garrity.  Vikings Allen and Irvine won the first 21/18 against Jason Chatwood and Janet Sayle with the Marown pair taking the second game 21/17.  Some excellent defence work from Irvine in the third game saw Allen and Irvine take it 21/16.  Marown’s second mixed combination of youth and experience Colley and Kermode combined well to take a 21/19 21/14 victory over Quayle and Murphy.  First mixed was very much a tale of three separate games and with some excellent serving from Avery. O'Hare and Avery ran out winners for Marown 21/19 19/21 21/16 over Matthew and Emma Nicholson which left Vikings with a slender 10-9 victory. SN

CuPlas Callow St Ninians A 16 Doehle Corporate Selborne A 0

16-0 was always on the cards, as the home team and champions were at full-strength, whilst Selborne had four reserves - three of last year's C team and another only played socially until very recently! Full marks go to Selborne's players for some quality play and bags of effort and both teams for a good contest in many of the games. At second men's St Ninians Matthew Wilkinson and Gregg Harrison were a bit too strong for Ray McMullen and Shibu Augustian winning 21/7 21/15, however there were many long rallies which made for entertaining games. At first mens Neil Harding and Jonny Callow won 21/7 21/14 against Selborne’s Stuart Foley and a nervous Neil McMullen who settled and did better in the second game. At second womens St Ninians Sarah Corlett and Alex Domingo won 21/13 21/12 versus Lisa Lewin and Carol Kelly. At first womens Nicola Wilkinson and Sue Domingo beat Selborne’s Joyce Hall and Sarah Davidson 21/16 21/7.  St Ninians Harrison and Alex Domingo took fourth mixed 21/14 21/18 against Ray McMullen and Kelly. Selborne’s Neil McMullen and Davidson lost 13/21 13/21 to Matthew Wilkinson and Sue Domingo at second, while at first Harding and Nicola Wilkinson beat Foley (deservedly Selborne's Player of the Match) and Joyce Hall 21/14 21/18 in a hard-fought high quality encounter.  RMcM

League 3

From week ending 6th February

Sulby Glen Sulby 13 Celton Fencibles B 5

This was a good win for Sulby and an excellent night of good sportsmanship from
Fencibles. Both teams had players who were playing up for the match with
Leah Brennan playing in her first ever match. Well done to Stuart Clarke and Judy kelly for winning their fourth mixed playing up for Sulby. Fencibles scored their wins with their men playing very well in some close games with Richard Weir and Matthew Gawne
winning 26/24 21/19 against Sulby's Stuart Clarke and George Li and at
first mens Ben Moore and Mark Quayle winning 15/21 21/15 22/20 against
Sulby's Andrew Simpson and Simon Clarke. The mixed all went to Sulby with
the pick of the night at second mixed with Sulby's Simpson and Emma
Christie taking the win 19/21 21/13 21/16 against Fencibles Quayle and Christine Houghton. PLS
