Sam Jones wins the Isle of Man Shooting Club’s September Handicap

Fifteen year old Sam Jones produced an extraordinary result on Sunday morning when he was one of just nine club members who contested the Isle of Man Shooting Club’s monthly Handicap. The young Jones had a disastrous start to the match when he cross-fired in the first series of shots. This caused a 10 point penalty but this did not deter the teenager and he regained his concentration and continued, posting three final series, each of 95 – well done Sam you deserved the win. Andy Potter collected second position with John Wood in third slot. Although the weather conditions appeared to be excellent, all those shooting complained of various problems mainly due to the light and a breezy which was difficult to read and scores were extremely low, indeed, the lowest handicap scores of the season.

Trafford takes the Junior Grand Prix

The fifth and final round of the Isle of Man Shooting Club’s Junior Grand Prix was shot concurrently with the monthly handicap and this round went to Sam Jones on 551 x 600 with Alex Trafford, the only other competitor shooting this round on Sunday, on 545. The final tally is calculated with the best 3 rounds to count and the overall win went to Alex Trafford. Unfortunately only three juniors completed at least 3 of all five rounds.

Creevy to compete in Zagreb

As mentioned in last week’s column, Great Britain team member Harry Creevy, had qualified in 21st position for the final of the Individual 300 metre Lapua Championship in Zagreb, Croatia, but the final is limited to only 20 athletes. Harry has during the past week been informed that an opportunity to compete had become available due to a competitor unable to compete and Creevy has decided to take the opportunity and travel to Zagreb on September 24th with the final commencing on Friday 25th. Best wishes for every possible success Harry.
