Action-packed Finish To Newfield Netball Season

The netball season ended with a bang on Sunday following the fast-paced Newfield Cup Finals.

Six teams battled it out at the NSC in the final three matches of the Cup, Plate and Vase, in front of a large crowd of supporters.

Simcocks Green Eagles fought hard against Castletown to be named winner of the Plate, SMP Partners Ballasalla B and Route One Connections B battled it out in a close game, but SMP Partners Ballasalla just got ahead to take first place in the Vase, and SMP Partners Ballasalla A missed out on a win in the highly-anticipated match against Simcocks Red Eagles.

Rachel Andrew, Isle of Man Netball Development Officer, said: ‘The matches on Sunday were a great watch and I’m so pleased we got a big crowd down to support the players and create an exciting atmosphere. And a big congratulations to all the winners and runners-up!

‘The 2017/18 season has proved itself as a competitive one with league positions changing week-on-week, and a fierce battle for those highly-coveted top spots. There have been some nail-biting matches but overall I think each and every team has worked incredibly hard, and this is evident in the level of skill that can be seen on the court each week.

‘I would like to offer my thanks to Newfield for its ongoing support, and to the umpires, scorers and spectators who have given up their time to make the season as successful as it has been - we simply couldn’t do it without them!’

Newfield will continue its sponsorship of the netball League and Cup for the 2018-19 season, which will kick off with a pre-season tournament in September.

Denis Mikan, Director at Newfield, said: ‘It has been great to support the Senior Netball League and Cup this season, and we are looking forward to getting involved again next year. The standard of this fast-paced sport is very impressive on the Island, and we hope our support encourages more players to get on the court!’
