Crews called to out of control bonfire

Thu, 08 Jul 2010

Fire crews were called to Peel after a large quantity of black smoke was spotted.

Officers located an out of control bonfire at Knockaloe Beg, which included tyres.

It took an hour and a half for crews to put the fire out and damp down the area yesterday evening.

Anyone who is planning on having a garden rubbish or bonfire should contact the Emergency Services Joint Control Room before, and ensure that there is at least eighteen metres between the fire and anything else.

Fire officers are also asking the public to take into account weather conditions and the possibility of the fire spreading.
