Tributes are being made to the First Deemster of the Isle of Man, who passed away in the early hours.

Mike Kerruish had been battling an illness for some time.

President of Tynwald Noel Cringle told the court this morning that the Deemster had died, and asked the members to join him in a silence.

Mr Cringle described him as a true Manxman, who he had great memories of as a friend and colleague.

Chief Minister Tony Brown says Deemster Kerruish will be missed by many, but that the Island has been very fortunate to have had him serve the Island which such distinction and dedication.

As First Deemster, Mike Kerruish also served as the Deputy Governor of the Isle of Man.

Lieutenant Governor Sir Paul Haddacks issued a statement saying he valued Deemster Kerruish's wise counsel and friendship, and that his passing is a sad loss to the Island.

Second Deemster David Doyle says he made a massive contribution to the Island, who was a fair and wise Deemster.
